BLAŽ KOREZ

Born on 12th March 1982 in Ljubljana, Blaž Korez is a musician who started by playing the clarinet at the elementary music school in Maribor. In 1997 he was acquainted with Nino Murekšič who introduced him to Western African polyrhythmic traditional forms. He expanded his knowledge by exploring traditional Cuban music. He studied with acclaimed musical masters in various percussion and musical workshops at home and abroad. In his study travels to Cuba, Spain, France, the Netherlands, etc., he met with masters, such as pt. Suresh Talwalkar, Hakim Ludin, Carlo Rizo, Jathinder Thakur, Kevin Jones, Gyan Singh, Thomas Guei, Kachito, Edvardo Lavoy, Ramon Marguez Domiguez, etc.
He also attended seminars at the Georges Momboy school, (Paris, France), the Amor de Dios school (Madrid, Spain) and codarts - Rotterdam Conservatorium (Rotterdam, the Netherlands). He has acquired knowledge about the wealthy heritage of the Western African polyrhythmic traditional forms of Guinea, Mali, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. In Cuba he explored the rich rhythmic culture and structure of Afro-Cuban music which represents an important branch in the world of percussions.

He regularly teaches at Plesna izba in Maribor and frequently accompanies African dance performances.

He is participating in numerous projects and is an active member of several musical groups that are regularly creating and performing music.
