PERCUSSION COURSES (1,2,3)

PERCUSSIONS 1 – for beginners

Participants will learn the basic beats used on a djembé and come to know some simple African rhythms, before moving on to slightly more complex ones. The class is aimed at absolute beginners and all of those who would like to refresh their basic knowledge of playing the djembé.

PERCUSSIONS 2 – for participants with basic knowledge

The emphasis of the class is on understanding the tune, rhythm and tempo in each of the rhythms. We will perfect the correct way to perform the basic beats and then move on to more complex rhythms, occasionally adding a traditional African song to some of them. The class is aimed at those who already know the basics of African drumming.

PERCUSSIONS 3 – advanced classes

The emphasis of the class is on understanding the tune, rhythm and tempo in each of the rhythms as well as perfecting the correct beats used on a djembé, the switching between hard and soft beats and sustaining accuracy when playing in fast-speed tempo. The class is aimed at those with previous experience of playing the djembé.

INDIVIDUAL CLASSES

When taking up a one-on-one class, you can play the djembé or dunun and/or learn to perform solo on either djembé or dunun.
